Bang-Ju Church in Jeju

Bang-Ju Chruch was built
by a famous Japanese-Korean architect, Itami Jun, in Jeju in 2009.

Itami Jun got inspiration from the bible story, 'Noah's Ark.'

So the shape of Bang-Ju Church resembles Noah's ark.

Bang-Ju Church looks like a ship floating on the water.

Itami Jun wrote in his book  "Architecture and Urbanism 1970-2011",
"The important thing is to listen to the language spoken
by the topography of the land and the 'voice of the wind,"

So we can see the wind in his architecture, Bang-Ju Church.

Do you find the wind in the Bang-Ju Church?

We can see the wind rippling the surface of the water.

There is no bus route.
If you want to go there, You have to drive a car.

Dodu-Bong in Jeju

My first posting!! Dodu-Bong.

Dodu-Bong is "Oreum".
"Bong" means "Oreum" as a Jeju dialect.

Jeju island is a volcanic island,
resulting from a series of volcanic explosion that have occurred not so long ago.

Small parasite volcanos called "Oreum(오름)" were formed out of
small sized sporadic volcanic explosions at the Halla Mountain piedmont area
as Jeju island was formed.

"Oreum" refers to a tiny volcanic zone
that contains a volcanic cone scattered over the island.

This word, "Oreum", is a Jeju dialect.
The origin of the word "Oreum" is traced to a noun,
made from the verb "mount(오르다)".

Dodu-Bong is famous for its view of
Jeju City, Dodu Port, Jeju International Airport, and Halla Mountain.

On the top of Dodu-Bong,
you could see the whole Jeju city
from GuJeju(Old Jeju City) to ShinJeju(New part of Jeju City).

Looking around Dodu-Bong will take only about an hour.

Dodu-Bong is easy to access
because it just located near the Jeju International airport.

To visit Dodu-Bong from the Jeju International airport, You'd better take a taxi becuase there is few bus services around Dodu-Bong.
