Jeju Stone Park is an ecological and cultural park
that shows the geological formation process of Jeju Island
and the history of Jeju people's life engraved in stones for visitors.
The park provides three walking courses.
Visitors can choose any or all of the three walking courses.
The first course leads visitors
to see various figurative stone sculptures
describing the legend of
Seolmundae Halmang and Oh-baek Jang-goon
such as 'the passage of legend', 'Symbol tower', 'Sky Pond'
and 'the statue of mother and son.'
(In the myth, Seolmundae Halmang was a goddess making Jeju island.
Seolmundae Halmang had 500 sons,
Jeju people have called them Oh-baek Jang-goon)
'the passage of legend' |
Walking alongside the forest next to 'the passage of legend',
visitors can see 'Sky Pond' and 'Jeju Stone Museum'.
'Sky Pond' |
Jeju Stone Museum has
Jeju Formation Exhibition Hall and Stone Gallery.
Jeju Formation Exhibition Hall introduces the formation process of Jeju
and Stone gallery displays precious stones created
by volcanic activity on Jeju island.
Following the second course,
there are the 8 thatched-roof houses of the Stone Culture Exhibition Hall
where the stone cultures of the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties are displayed
according to their distinct times.
In the open exhibition space,
Jeong-ju-seok(gate stones), Dong-ja-seok(tomb guardian child stone), and artifacts related to the daily life of Jeju residents, their religion, daily life are on display.
Walking along the third course,
visitors can find a tranditional Jeju village.
In this space, visitors can see
how people in Jeju lived in traditional thatched-roof houses a long time ago.
I felt like wandering through a lost Jeju village.
Because the park is very large,
visitors may have enough time to look around in the park.
